Unique and Commissioned Furniture Handcrafted with Passion
Studio 1212 started as the creative partnership of Derek & Danielle Hurd and has grown into a furniture design and maker space in the heart of the Surel Mitchell Live-Work-Create district in Garden City, Idaho. This site features furniture of all kinds and other 3D work in various mediums. First exposed during his thesis year of his architectural degree, Derek has been designing and creating furniture since 1997 with an ever increasing love and workload. Studio 1212 ships our furniture around the country and the world and we would be honored to make you something new this month. We love to create unique pieces and have conversations that start with “can you…?” Furniture is in our lives and we interact with it daily; it should be something special, something with a story, and a maker with a name rather than a factory.
Thanks for looking at my work and supporting my studio, favorite our shop and come back often or shoot me a convo if you have an idea in mind for a custom piece of furniture. You can also find us on social media, where the most current work and dialogue with our fans takes place.

![]() | Derek HurdOwner/Designer Derek was raised in Woodstock, Vermont enjoying the hardwood forests out the back door for mountain biking and Nordic skiing. Derek moved west for taller mountains and a professional degree in architecture. It was there during his thesis year in 1997 that he discovered his love for furniture design and hands on 3D “functional art.” Derek started a residential architecture firm called Gravitas in 2001 and has designed hundreds of custom homes throughout the country. During his early architectural career Derek was also building furniture annually for a furniture design competition. Furniture design and making eventually developed into a full time passion which grew Studio 1212 into what it is today. |
