“This table was created to honor our grandmothers. Sewing machines once were a part of daily life and were prominent fixtures in the home. My grandmother’s sewing machine, like this one, was a central part of the living room and it never gathered dust.
Because of our hurried lives and disposable clothes from big box stores, we have relegated even the modern plastic versions of these machines to the back of a closet to be used once or twice a year. This table brings the sewing machine back into the living room; back as a celebrated reminder of a time when we had time, a time when we made instead of bought, a time when we fixed instead of threw away.”
Perfect for that entry table to set the keys and mail on, or as an accent piece in the living room. At home in a modern contemporary setting, or cozy cottage. I love to blend objects and woodworking, the found and the made. This blend in part is what will make it work in so many homes.
The table is made from a powder coated (not a rattle can thank you) Singer base topped with a solid hard maple with walnut inlay as the stitching. Foot pedal is operational and has a nice sound to it.
